Bangkok - General Info

Here I am in Bangkok!
From Bangkok airport to the city you can take either a taxi or the sky-train, if your hotel has a stop nearby. The old town is not connected with the metro and the sky-train but it is a very convenient and nice area to stay. Alternatively you can choose a hotel along the river between Sathon and Silom, where they are super hotels such as the Lebua hotel, Shangri-La, Mandarin Oriental ... The taxi from the airport to the old town takes about 40 minutes and it costs between 250 and 300 baht, to which are added the 50 baht for the service just outside the airport (they will provide you a ticket with the number of the taxi. This procedure is inevitable unless you go on the departures side and you take one of the taxis that arrive there). I highly recommend you the hotel I chooseit as it is convenient for visiting the main attractions (10 minutes walk from the Royal Palace), is near to Kaoshan Road (5 minutes walk) but far enough away to sleep peacefully without music and chaos and is surrounded by restaurants, massage shops, 7 / Eleven, bars etc. It's called Nouvo City Hotel in 2 Samsen Road, perfect area! It is clean and has a small pool on the rooftop terrace. For a quick meal if you arrive late in the evening, go to the Wunder Bar near the hotel and have a seat in the midst of bamboo canes and colored lanterns enjoying a delicious Thai coconut milk soup.

Khao San Road in Bangkok is very popular and is in fact very touristy. During the night it becomes very lively and you can dance all night long. There are many bars/pubs where you can drink a cocktail and meet other western tourists. During New Year's Eve it becomes a unique festival, in full moon party style!

Bangkok is quite a cheap city and you can find many ATM and exchange points in any area. Concerning transportation there are tuk tuks and taxis. The first is an experience you have to try at least once even if they it?۪s more expensive than a taxi and you have to negotiate! As regards the latter, always ask the driver to use the meter! If you decide to visit the ancient capital Ayutthaya you can do it as a day trip and take the mini van from Victory Monument which costs 60 baht and takes about an hour. When in Ayutthaya, the best way to get around is to rent a bike or bargain for a tuk tuk ride around the main temples.

Soon new articles concerning what to visit, eat and not to miss!

Enjoy :-)
