Phú Quoc Island: the Little Vietnamese Paradise

phu-quoc-map

This little island in southern Vietnam can be reached either by plane (we flew with Vietnam Airlines and the flight takes less than 40 minutes) or by boat. What I recommend you to do is to rent a scooter and visit the various beaches. The three main are:

  • Long Beach is the most populated and tourist, it's quite wide and the sea is anything fancy. From here, however, you can see the most beautiful sunsets of the island as the sun sets right in front. In Long Beach there are most of the hotels, including the one I've chosen, La Veranda Resort, highly recommended!
  • Sao Beach (Bai Sao) is the pearl of Southeast Asia, characterized by crystal clear water and white sand! Really wonderful! The only downside is that to get there you have to go through a very dirt road.
  • Ong Lang: in the middle of the previous two, less crowded than Long Beach but also less paradisiacal than Sao Beach.

WHERE TO EAT Concerning the evening there are various restaurants, both Vietnamese and seafood. For sure you must have one dinner at the night market, where fishermen expose their fresh fish on the counters and grill it on the spot! The ambiance is very basic but the atmosphere is charming and the fish super fresh!! If you want to try a very local restaurant you have to go to Trung Duong and order "eam ghe" (fried rice with crab) or a seafood salad that is served with some rice papers aside and you have to feel them creating a sort of fresh spring rolls. Le Deauville is another restaurant that offers a seafood menu and has a nice gazebo on the beach; be sure it's open because it closes during the low season! If you prefer a more tourist choice, I suggest you Chez Carole, in Long Beach. Anywhere you want to go, never go too late because in Vietnam they're used to eat very early and the last orders is around 10/11 pm! It seems incredible, but unfortunately it is!

Palermo - Mondello

img_01992.jpg

Most of you have already heard about the Mondello area , as one of the most touristic place in Palermo and as setting of the film " Il Gattopardo " by Luchino Visconti. It remains one of the most fascinating areas of the city thanks to the wonderful colors given by the shades of the sea and white sand... during the spring season , the landscape is the best because the beach is still free from umbrellas and sun loungers that during the summer flock to this area making it almost unbearable!ImmagineImmagineImmagineImmagineImmagine

If you feel like having a walk along the seaside I recommend starting from the intersection of Viale delle Palme with Viale Regina Elena and continue on the latter until you reach the famous little square! Looking around, especially towards the inland , you will see a succession of amazing Art Nouveau villas . This district is in fact known for having the most prestigious buildings in the city.ImmagineImmagine

Halfway there is the Charleston , the oldest seaside bath-houe built on stilts. Inside you will also find a great restaurant , "Le Terrazze".IMG_0392IMG_0520

What I recommend the most is a having a walk in the little square , maybe resting a while and tasting a deliciuous ice cream or a typical ???arancina?۝ in front of the colorful boats of the fishermen and the cedar merchants!IMG_0402IMG_0403IMG_0405IMG_0523IMG_0530IMG_0516
